Tongue diagnosis

Tongue diagnosis to determine disease mechanisms

Tongue diagnosis is a diagnostic procedure in Traditional Chinese Medicine that can be used to determine underlying disease mechanisms. Tongue diagnosis is based on 3000 years of Chinese medicine and has been verified by recent scientific studies. The diagnostic procedure is explained below using a few examples.

Main criteria of tongue diagnosis

The color of the tongue

It indicates which areas of the body contain heat (red) or cold (pale). When blood isn't flowing properly (blood stasis), the body of the tongue appears purple.

The shape of the tongue

Provides information about the fullness and emptiness of the body. A severely swollen tongue indicates moisture accumulation, while a small tongue is due to a lack of blood.

The tongue coating

A normal tongue has a thin, white coating. A thick coating indicates the presence of pathogenic factors. The thicker the coating, the more severe the pathogenic influence. The absence of the natural coating indicates a substance deficiency.

Moisture/dryness of the tongue

The degree of moisture on the tongue body indicates the condition of the body fluids.

Application

The tongue diagnosis serves as the basis for  Traditional Chinese Medicine, from which the therapy procedures Acupuncture, herbs and dietary therapy derive.

Note

I would like to point out that the naming of the listed illnesses does not constitute a promise of healing or a guarantee of relief or improvement of the listed conditions. The areas of application of naturopathy are based on the findings and experience of the therapeutic approaches themselves. There are no relevant, reliable scientific findings, i.e., evidence-based studies, that support the effect or therapeutic efficacy of naturopathy.

Some of the listed conditions require conventional medical evaluation or can be treated in a naturopathic practice alongside medical intervention. Your treating therapist will advise you whether treating your condition with naturopathic medicine alone, alongside medical intervention, or whether immediate specialist evaluation is necessary.
